The design is printed exclusively for you on a high quality adhesive vinyl film with no transparency. This means that it covers any pattern, like veneer, that it's mounted on. The vinyl is laminated with a glossy surface to add extra protection - it has to cope with the wear and tear in a kitchen - and added colour depth.
